Assuming you've looked at prices and are still considering Highland Park etc., be assured that they allow saabs and you don't have to sell your current stock.
No substitute for driving around the areas, though, if you can.
That said, if the prices are a little high in the burb's you name, look in Glenview which has great new areas, and a great older area, Skokie, Morton Grove, Lincolnwood, all to the south; I'm on the NW side of Chicago (sauganash / edgebrook) which is also south, and on a no-traffic day can get to Northbrook in about 20 minutes up/down the Edens. The schools are all good in those areas.
To the west (on a map, down Lake Cook Rd.) any of the burb's you see are great, all the way to Barrington and beyond (keeping in mind that Lake Cook Rd. has really, realy bad traffic in both directions) , all have their areas good and bad; Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove are the epitome of middle class suburbia and have really nice houses and schools.
Riverside is beautiful also, but I agree you meant Riverwoods which is also great. Any if you wind up in Lake County, they have great forest preserves, I go up there with the dog as often as I can.
Feel free to PM me with any other questions or if you're coming in to town to look, I can maybe give a feel for what area you're looking at. Lived here all my life (42 years) and know the area pretty well.
