10 years? How about the next 3? What is happening is you have BIG AGRI going up against BIG OIL. Then you have the banks who lost so much money in the mortgage market now investing in the oil futures market. I see a rise in the use of mass transportation...more so than in the past. And since I am in that business, I have seen an increase in ridership as the price of gas goes up. The gasoline tax should be used to fix roads, and help public transit. Sadly, our state gov't has seen fit to raid that fund to balance the budget. My advise for those of you reading this post: Stock up on your groceries, keep your gas tanks full, make up a "bug-out bag" with 72 hours worth of necessities, and be ready. For what? Are you really ready for a disaster? An Earthquake, Hurricane, civil unrest, economic failure or who knows what else?
Cars will eventually be used less, and the bicycle will make a comeback. When the oil hits $7 per gallon in the USA, people will sit up and say something. But until then... 75% of society will carry on "business as usual"
Sorry for the rant
