So you shouldn't be fine with it, especially since you're in Ohio. (I grew up in Ohio and had lived in Michigan for 13 years). Our country needs an industrial base just as much as it needs a banking system, which for some reason, the government is OK with helping while saying no to the auto industry. Outside of the Midwest, there are legal firms, investment companies, medical companies, advertising agencies, suppliers... that depend on a healthy Big 3.
And to say that American cars are "horribly made" is a total false statement. Remember that they compete at different price-points so they can't be as nice as a European car that costs $10K to $15K more. Have you seen the new Malibu or CTS?
