It has been my opinion since the announcement of GM's involvement in SAAB, that there would be no or little good to come of it for SAAB. All that has happen is a unique brand has been watered down into just another boring GM car with a european twist. I saw a pair of Pontiac G8s this weekend and the point that GM had watered-down SAAB hit me like a pair of bricks. SAABs, cars that stood out in any crowd are now to be mistaken with a cheesy brand like Pontiac. Then, while in Canada, I saw a GM dealer TV ad. Potential customers had their pick of Chevrolets, Oldsmobiles, Hummers, Cadillacs, Saturns, and SAABs? WTF? And they are surprise SAAB is not performing well? VW makes Audi, but how often are VWs sold alongside Audis. And when it is bundled with Audis, Audi is given top billing. The same apparently is understood by Toyoto for its Lexus brand. I guess the big question is: what does GM consider SAAB? Is it a premium brand or on par with Saturn?
I am praying that SAAB is sold by GM to an entity that will return it to a niche brand that create unique cars that can be marketed to a discerning group of car buyers.
GM & Saab a HUGE mistake that is coming home to roost!
