We have a 9000 and an '03 9-5 wagon, both used to haul stuff. They seem to hold about the same amount, but it depends on what you're hauling.
We just did a 1350 mile vacation trip in the 9-5 Linear. We had two adults, 2 daughters 20 and 15 and another 15 yr old girl. And all our stuff. About 850 pounds in all. We hammered it to make it to a ferry on time and got 26-27 mpg at 80+, then averaged over 28 coming back at 70-75, including 1/2 an hour basically idling in traffic at a border crossing. Real mileage on the way back without the stop and go was over 30. Ten hours in the car in each direction was no biggie.
The 9-5 is very comfy, at least as good as the 9000, which is my daily driver and sees a bunch of 6-8 hour drives. I like the 9-3 SportCombi, but if you have to haul people, I think the 9-5 is a better bet. Better sorted at this point, too. I think the 9-3 is a bit more fun to drive, but it depends on your needs.
