Oil in cylinders when storing car, advice needed Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Thu, 11 Sep 2008 08:45:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I've had people on the actual board tell me not to do it, however I want to, for the sake of the engine. It is a 9-3 Viggen, so I will be doing an oil change, taking it for a 30 mile drive and the storing it. Now, when do I add oil in the cylinders? The engine will be pretty darn hot...Do I wait until it cools down? I know once you've run it to operating temperature, you shouldn't start it until next year. So okay, please tell me what I should do.
This is how I plan to add oil though:
(Oh, yes take out DI cassette first..)
1)Take out spark plugs, put (how much?) oil in a syringe that will spit out oil on the sides of the cylinder (so the oil doesn't just sit on top of the piston).
2)Put spark plugs back in, put the DI cassette back on, WITHOUT the connector, and turn the key which will crank but not start the engine. Dunno how long I should do this for...(??)
3)Crank the engine again before starting it in the spring
I want to do this for sure this year, so I wanna get it right. Thanks for any of your help! I'm sure many of you have the experience. Bender.
