lcd is lighter than plasma for the same size tv. lcd doesn't produce as much heat as plasma while it's running. eventually, the gas in the cells (bubbles) of the plasma will escape and your picture gets more dim and less colourful.

lcd's use a bulb, which on the more expensive models, is user replaceable. if it's not user replaceable, it's a shop job, which may cost close to cost of new tv at/when you need it. bulbs are around $300 last time i checked (year ago).

plasma has a broader range of view from side to side without darkening at edges. lcd do get darker, but average f.o.v. is 170 degrees, which is fine for most rooms unless it's really wide and you're close to edge of room/side of screen (think old school proj. tv).

tv with built in tuner you plug your cable or satellite connection into, otherwise goes thru cable box then to tv like normal. lots of displays now have built in speakers, not all are good, but you can plug in external sound. more than one hdmi input allows you to leave devices (dvd's, game console, sound, etc) plugged in without having to change them.

you can use lcd as a big computer monitor, plasma could be used for it, but not nearly as sharp an image as lcd.

contrast range is important in that the higher it is, the more shadow detail you will be able to see, as well as greater range between dark and light. refresh rate is important when watching fast moving action (sports for instance) so you don't have ghosting as the action is moving faster than the tv can refresh.

full hd refers to the 1080p (progressive) vs. the 1080i (interlaced) scanning of image. 720p was the older high standard (now more intermediate tv feature). interlaced is basically the scanning of half an image at a time, whereas progressive is scanning a complete image.

that's my understanding of the whole thing. no, i don't work at a tv store, and i'm more than willing to be corrected if any info is incorrect. it's all based on research i did before purchasing my tv. and no, you don't want my tv, there are better around now!

hope it helps,
mark :-)
