We are all aware that the job of the trial "expert" is to make to unreasonable sound plausible. An interested observer to almost any medical malpractice suit or the "expert" in the Audi unintended acceleration case can see the gap between testimony and reality.
Most locking systems have nothing to do with making the latch mechanism stronger, only disengaging the unlatch device (the handle). the benefit to unlocked doors during driving is to allow rescue from a schmooshed car.
