If all else fails and you need a new well, try to find someone who will pound it, instead of drilling. Our neighbor drilled 600' and came up with nothing, pounded and had plenty of water at 160'. Most others in our area are down 500'-700'+. Our well is pounded, it is only 150' and we have plenty of good quality water. The difference is that as the well is drilled, the veins get plugged up with rock dust. When it is pounded (it takes several days), the veins open up as it goes down. We were also told that water from wells less than about 200' requires little or no treatment, but that might be specific to our area.
