The flowrate of your well is not great at 1.6 GPM. To fill a tub must take forever!!! If you have a 4" well, your pump is at 400' and the water level is at 140', then you have 260' of 4" pipe as your holding tank in addition to your bladder tank. Calculate that and determine how long you have until it runs dry again...
How are you measuring the fact that it recovered to 140'?
Your short term fix would be to buy (as large as you can afford) a larger bladder holding tank or tanks. This is the cheapest way out of this. This will provide more of a cushion during peak loads.
I would also look at a variable speed pump that is controlled by discharge pressure. The more water needed the faster the pump runs and vice versa. This wont help your supply issues but will help your electric bill when not many people are home and the pump is running at a slower speed.
I would not fac the well. It was just done in 05 and only netted a mere .1 GPM.
Start saving your money and drill a new well.
Good Luck.
Look on the bright side my town water bill is about 1100 bucks per year so if you were me the payback is less than 10 years... Heck I may even think of doing this....
