I had a C900 for 20 years. It was a very reliable, all-road, all weather car but I didn't shed any tears when I went to my 9000. The 9000 is a whole different animal, as is our '03 9-5 wagon. The 9000 still feels like a classic Saab, just more refined. A Mercedes-owning friend who used to have a 99 drove my 9000 one day and said, "Oh, yeah. This is definitely a Saab!" The 9-5 is refined another step and sure doesn't feel as unique, but I still prefer it and the 9K to most other cars today.
The C900 was great for its time and had a mechanical simplicity that's lacking in today's cars, but get in one now and while they're fun to drive, they really feel like an old car. That's not bad, it's just different: like an MGB is different from a Miata, or a real VW Bug is different from a new Beetle. The ride, steering and handling, along with NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) on a C900 are all way off the scale of a modern car.
Is this good or bad? That's an individual choice. But a new clone of the C900 wouldn't sell very well today.
