I am afraid my answer(s) wil be slightly off-topic, as the 9-3 (in either incarnation) is a Saab I've never owned.

I have owned the following, however:

1. 97 9000 CSE (stick)
2. 2000 9-5 aero (auto)
3. 2002 9-5 aero (stick)
4. 1998 ng900 (auto)
5. 1989 c900 SPG
6. !985 c900 SPG

owned in the order listed...I still have only the SPGs. While my SPGs are great (there is a reason the order is as such), they do lack some refinement in relation to the rest of the cars - from dash cracks, to rattles, to poor instrument lighting - which bespeak their age/era.

All were great cars, although the ng900 was my least favorite - I found the styling only OK, and the auto unexciting. Nevertheless, in my experience, the build quality is better or as decent in most respects over the years. Look in any of the forums here, and there is always something designed weirdly or poorly in any Saab model.

My favorites remain the SPG and either the 2002+ 9-5 aero or a late(r) 9000 aero. Since it is hard to come by a decent 9000 these days, and with Saab resale values in the tank - I might look at a new(er) 9-5.

I would keep the c900 around as a Sunday driver, however...too much fun to give up completely.

As I said, I have no experience with the og9-3. I will say (anecdotally) that my indie saab mechanic has said he has had less problems/visits from that model than any other...but experience always varies.

Just one man's opinion....
