A serpentine belt on a 2000 Saab doesn't tell the whole story. Is it a 9-3 or a 9-5.
The 9-5 is quite a challenge since you also always replace the idler pulleys together with the belt. Otherwise the job is less than half done.
Many and most people working in this trade didn't just wake up one day and decided to become a mechanic. They started with tinkering with many and most mechanical things around them and slowly grew into it getting older and maybe go to a Auto mechanic trade school after highschool and then from there on into the trade either at an indy shop, lube shop or dealership.
Some doesn't have any formal training at all but a good aptitude for mechanical things and how they work so they learn that way.
By using this bulletin forum and searching for answers on the net, you can get all the help you need before starting every project (something that was not available when I was young)so that will surely make it easier for you to make decisions if you want to tackle the job or not.
