and love it. I tried the Canon, Olympus, and Pentax cameras and bought the D40 based on the fact that it felt the best in my hand. All of the other reviewers make great points on the different systems out there, so my contribution is try them all and buy the one that feels the best in your hand and has controls that feel the most natural.

Oh, also I would recommend buying a memory card that has the fastest transfer speed available. No sense in buying a great camera with fast shutter if your card can't keep up.
