But extremely high demand for hot water result in a unit with a large fuel requirement and large vent requirement. Producing hot water at a slower rate and storing it for future demand (the typical tank heater) can be more cost effective, particularly if the demand cycles are short in duration.
Sort of counter-intuitive, but a tankless unit may be best for those installations requirng almost constant hot water flow, i.e. a car wash. Whereas a tank style may be best for homes with one or two people and short duration hot water demands.
