A different approach...... Many quality tool makers offer a lifetime warranty. As an example, I had a 30 year old breaker bar (Craftsman) and I cracked the head. I walked into a Sears store and they gave me a brand new one....no hassle.
Research and contact the customer service folks at the company that made your ratchet. Explain your problem and ask for a replacement under their lifetime warranty.
If you get a no, for whatever reason, you'll have to buy a new ratchet sooner or later. Or, you'll have to completely disassemble your ratchet, clean and relubricate.
Alternatively, if you get a no, replace the ratchet. Over the years I've purchased SnapOn, Matco and S-K tools with universally good results and excellant warranty service. A ratchet is one tool I would not skimp on...it's used so much. You could try eBay too; I've bought several SnapOn tools there....with full warranty support which I have used.
