over the ratcheting cylinder (opposite side from the 3/8 drive). I've never removed this circlip, so I am speculating at this point. The circlip was obviously designed for access to the ratchet innards, so I would venture to remove any such circlip, should your ratchet have one. Be careful of springs, etc., if you do open it. If the steel quality it any good, I would assume a good water blasting would remove that beautiful red clay; I'd follow up with some P-Blaster or WD-40 to get lubrication into fine clearances, and then pack it with wheel bearing grease.
