A few years ago, I had the inside gears of a Craftsman ratchet let go. I called a nearby Sears store and they told me that they could either repair it or replace it without a problem. When I brought it in, they guy took the ratchet, brought it in the back and came out with a brand new ratchet. I asked him if it could be repaired rather than replaced with a new one. He smiled and asked, "Why....do you have some sort of sentimental attachment to this ratchet?" I told him that in fact I did, and that the ratchet had been purchased with a socket set about 30 years ago and was, at the time, a fairly pricey gift from my wife. He then went into the back and came back out about 15 minutes later with the repaired ratchet. The older ones that can be taken apart have a small oil port on the head end of the ratchet and if you look closely, there should be a small circlip type tab at the drive shaft that facilitates disassembly.
