question about engine longevity...if my friend is right Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Tue, 4 Aug 2009 19:14:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
or not. He was telling me if I have a Viggen, and drive it regular and not "hard" most of the time, that I should have just gotten a regular 9-3 since the engine will last longer (he does not know anything about saabs, just cars). He was telling me how the engine is tuned to run harder, and since it is doing it all the time, that parts will wear out faster etc...I then told him it was essentially the same engine as in the 9-5, simply in the 9-3 and he then said that when it is in the 9-5, it's already tuned to do all the work to move the heavier 9-5, and in a 9-3, it's doing got that extra power, which will render the engine to last not as long as it would in a 9-5. Wow, sounds like crap to me, one of these people who always has to be right....
I drive my car spiritedly only at times, but barely push it, and I don't see why I should if I don't want to. If anything, I believe driving it the way I do will cause parts to wear out less quickly (according to my friend, they already are! so I may as well....) I think with the religious maintenance that I do, whether it is the Viggen or the non-Viggen, it should not make a difference. These cars are meant to be very practical, and should be able to be driven the way you want to drive them.
