Against my personal wishes, my wife bought a Corolla (type-s, woo..) after getting her first job out of college (car is a 2006). I let her know she might want to drive a few other cars prior to that purchase but generally bit my tongue and let her get what she wanted.
Sure, it has a lot of features (power locks, windows, moonroof, 6-disc changer, alloys, etc). Sure it starts every morning, and has been trouble free for 70k miles now. Sure it gets about 36mpg on average (4sp auto, ugh).
But there is no force on this earth that would ever make me choose that car over any one of my saabs (or non-saabs, for that matter). Talk about an appliance; its boring to drive, boring to ride in, and boring to look at. It's even boring to work on - I struggle to find things to do to the car beyond change the oil. It's finally starting to come up on a brake job, and I'm excited about doing the work. Sick, I know. I'd rather get in my 85 900 (crank windows, slipping clutch, wandering idle and all) and enjoy the drive, than get behind the wheel of that mind numbing dishwasher on wheels.
