If that were the case, then we would all be running around wearing a beige sheet and drive a generic sand colored sedan with no badging. it's called "personal style" (??) We define ourselves to others every day by the personal choices we make, be it flip-flops and a t-shirt, a business suit, or whatever. (it's maybe the equivalent of dogs marking territory or sniffing each other upon meeting.) it would follow then, that part of the decision we make on the type/brand/style of car we drive goes beyond just what pleases us personally, and has some link to how we feel others perceive us.
on the other hand... if i were the only person in a world of automotive choices (and i still had to actually pay for a car...)i guess i would still choose to drive a SAAB. ok - screw that argument!
