Hi Mike,
I guess the first question is what are your expectations? After you invest time or money or resources, what outcome would make you think it was worth it?
Your target audience is also a driver, I've found that linkedin is more business and an older crowd, but less chat-ie and more focused, Face Book can be much more chat-ie (depends upon the others in your group) but is a larger demographic age and professions and can help you branch out into places you might not have thought to go. Linked In does have better business and job search tools (it's more tuned that way), Face book is somewhat more free form and is always looking for people that know people you know and makes recomendations on that. Linked In is owned, or owns, classmates...
I did have a 23 year old say, "oh, so Linked In is like Face Book for old people??... yep, that about summed it up! ha ha ha!
