Toyota is recalling lots of car models including Lexus due to the floor mat causing the accelerator pedal to get stuck (link to article below). To those wanting to know why the vehicle was not put into neutral: "The Japanese automaker warned owners that if they think their vehicle is accelerating out of control, they should check to see whether their floor mat is under the pedal. If a driver can't remove the floor mat, Toyota advises drivers to step on the brake pedal with both feet until the vehicle slows and then try to put it into neutral and switch the ignition to accessory power." This implies the the car has to be slowed down before neutral can be selected. Major flaw design IMHO. Also mentioned holding down the start button for 3 seconds to shut down engine... another design flaw IMHO. Three seconds can seem like an eternity and in fact can be too long in some situations.
