After all this is what SAAB recommends.
'95 VW Golf, 10K oil changes since new, lasted till 260k, no oil related issues till the end
'00 9-5 LPT, 10k changes since new, synthetic Mobil 1 since 50k, now at 160k, no sludge so far (removed valve cover recently), original LPT turbo, no oil leaks
'03 MINI Cooper - computer asks for 17k oil changes, gets 10k oil changes instead (Mobil 1), now at 140k, no oils leaks or issues
If you want to do the math - I plan to keep the 9-5 till ~300k. Doing 5k instead of 10k oil changes - will require about $900 extra expenses and ~30 hrs of my time. Which is equivalent to a used engine cost and installation time but the probability that I will need one is way less than 1.
