Now about the car.....

1. IF IT IS NOT TOTALED: Get the estimate and plan on having the word done at a shop that YOU have independently determined to be a quality shop. DO NOT GET BULLIED into using a shop selected for you by anyone's insurance company.

2. IF IT IS TOTALED: Do your own homework in determining the value of the car. For reserach use the various used car sites, Kelly's Blue Book, etc. DO NOT BE RUSHED.

3. REGARDLESS: Do not let anyone take the car away until you have the written offer in hand.

4. ANOTHER REASON NOT TO RUSH: Certain types of injuries can take days to really show symptoms. If anything doesn't feel right physically, get it checked out.

5. A SMALL POINT: Empty the car out and take out any upgrades you paid extra for...to use in your next car. Insurance companies are notorious for paying pennies on the dollar for expensive upgrades.
