When money becomes worthless, as it has many times in the past. The people from Japan and Europe can tell you how useless the became in 1945 and there after. I have friends whose parents needed wheelbarrows of German Marks to buy milk and eggs from the nearby farmer.

To get by, you will need to be able to acquire goods and services for your own needs. To accomplish that, you need to have a skill or something else that someone would want and for which they are willing to accept. What is it, that you have to offer ? No use being a rocket scientist if no one is building or using rockets, Without these pieces of the puzzle, and they really are huge pieces of the puzzle and which this discussion is really all about. Please do not think that I am against a stong education, that is absolutely not true. But this would push all of us to the position of the most basic of skills. We might all become laborers / physical workers.

Being alone in a cabin is an option for some, but it has its own drawbacks. Sooner or later, you will need ammo for the gun or some clothes to replace what has worn out. You can shoot your local deer for sustance, but sooner or later, the need will arise for items / stuff you cannot provide for by yourself. When this point comes, you will need to barter for the goods / services that you want need. Historically, the farmer was the one who always had food on his table and was always in the best position to barter - he had what each of us needs on a daily basis - food.

If you are a farmer and decide that your wife needs a new painting in the house, an artist can barter the painting for the food. But if you need food and can only offer to some artwork and the farmer does not need / want new artwork, you have a problem.

Suggest that now you begin to exchange some of your "money" for very strong tangible assets. You determine what you are comfortable and what you would call a tangible asset. I would not consider a vehicle or most other manufactured items, to be a stong tangible assets. But in my opinion, it has to be something that another individual would want and that they feel would help them in their survical or lead to improvment of their current life status.

Sooner or later, the skills that we have used in our professional lives, will be needed again. The wages will be low and over time, it could be a generation or longer, they will begin to climb. Not necessarily to climb in value as inflation will also begin to play into this.

I would expect that society as we know it, will not be the norm. There could be / will be public revolts and riots. This could lead to real breakdown of the laws of the land. Bands of people, call them gangs, hoods and thugs, they will form their own groups. They will prey on the weak or those perceived to be weak. The times will be horrendous to live thru, due to the huge number of persons who will be without ! Without food, shelter or hope that things are or will improve. Society will be ripe for a change that could go in any direction.

Just some of my thoughts and concerns. BTW, I am not a pessamist by nature, but in my opinion, this is a very real potential situation.
