This is not it. Not that it is not too retro, or not retro enough, but it just does not say SAAB to me and I suspect most others (SAAB owners or not). Looks more like something that would come from Nissan, with it penchant now for Gallic flair under Renault.
Rather than the 92 as a base for design, I would like to see a modern interpretation of the notch-back 99. I think this design is distinctive (from the c900, which I hope will be the source of inspiration for the 2012 9-3), but is a more modern starting point than the 92, while still being a small car that they need to have in their line-up to compete.
Where I see the new version of any 92 is in the kind of sub-segment of EVO, WRX-killer that others have been clammering for. Small, light compact, high-reving engine - think a more street-practical version of the Honda S2000 powerplant, premium, but not luxury, fast, with great handling - a more affordable, edgy Audi TT.
