Saab 92 - completely goofy, and not well known
C900 - yeah a classic, but not retro enough to tap the required nostalgia (Furthermore, IMO I just don't see that shape, classic as it may be, pulling in droves of customers in today's market.)
Let's face it, no Saab is going to be as iconic as a Beetle or a Mini...
with Saab more or less historically a niche company. Despite that fact Saab has a great candidate in the stable: the Sonnet!
The Sonnet is distinctive, cool looking, and would upgrade nicely with modern technology. It's not a household name but I think the looks are a much easier sell than the other mentioned models. Moreover, as a small car, it could tap the green/enviro/fuel efficiency segment. Could it be produced at a very attractive price point? If so, I'd venture to guess that it could be a worldwide hit!
At least one industry analyst agrees with me, see link below.
Doesn't the Sonnet make infinitely more sense than a 92/96/C900?
