I sure don't get any of the old 93-96 models out of this. This is sorta a mix of Audi TT and something else I can't quite put my finger on.
I didn't get into Saabs until '84, so retro to me needs a "fishbowl" windshield. And a big hatch. Those are the Saabs (the C900) that most people instantly recognize as a Saab. Not the old ones.
As for other "retro" designs, some work, some don't.
IMHO, the new Camaro is a total failure. The Dodge Challenger ain't bad, and the Mustang is OK. Until you get to the awful interior. But I wouldn't buy any of them. The Beetle is too cute for its own good. The Mini is the only one with any real style. To me anyway. And all the originals had a large, loyal following. Makes a difference when you roll out a retro-look model and want to sell a bunch of them.
