Was out leaf peeping last week, and stopped at a dealer who had a lot chock full of used Saabs. He said:
o Every new 9-5 he gets he sells, so he didn't have a new 9-5 to show me.
o He believes the new 93 will be smaller, not bigger than the old one.
o He thinks a 92 with a Mini engine is a sure thing.
o Being short on new inventory, he is buyng all the off-lease 9-5s and 9-3s he can get, since they're about to become scarce, reflecting the 18-month stoppage of Saab assembly lines.
o He's very optimistic about the future. He said for $500 mill, Spyker bought a a ready-to-go, brand name auto manufacturer. Then turned around and sold Geely, for $500 mill, everything needed to build the old 9-5. So Spyker starts with a clean slate.
o I cordially disagree with snotty critiques of the old 9-5's interior. I rate interiors by ergonomics, quality and comfort. I especially hate overdesigned interiors. I stopped at a Buick dealership to check out the 9-5s "platform mate," and thought both the inside and outside were overdone.
o We were driving the missus' Lexus and the salesman did a nifty job of stating why Saab is a better car. 'Course the thing I dislike about her Lexus is that it's just too big. Fine for countryside cruising ... hard to tell where the car ends in close quarters.
