It bothers me if he just didn't think about popping it into Neutral or if the shift gate in that Lexus is one of those where you have to move it sideways to move back and forth or if the electronics in transmission computer just flatly says NO since the car is in full throttle mode.

The TCM goes, no way am I going into Neutral and ruining the engine by over revving, tough luck.

All this while hurdling down the freeway at 120mph avoiding other cars and not knowing that you have to push and hold the Start button for 3 consecutive seconds to turn off the engine. This was a new loaner car while his older Lexus was being serviced.
Or if the fuel computer goes, no way am I turning off engine at full throttle and risking no power steering function.

I just wish we knew more.
