that's my impression of what Castriota is doing with this... goes in the Saab museum as a design reference. I can't say I get too excited about concept cars when they are far fetched (like this and the AeroX)... that said, I suppose it's out there to attract interest, generate discussion, and provide some level of design feedback.

Some thoughts:

- it is interesting that they are dropping the Griffin badge in favour of the older logo (maybe only on this car though?). I kinda like the Griffin... I'm not old enough to have owned one of the "real" classics! At least there is no paint to peel!

- it is cool that the cockpit is "stripped down" to feel like a rally car... many have wished for some element of that in the new cars (eg a la Lotus)... emphasis on cockpit simplicity and that it wraps around the driver is a good thing imho!

- the Android based interface sounds interesting... particularly if it enabled one to make an app for (in car!) diagnostics etc ;-)

- I like that the windshield is getting pretty close to a real wrap-around windshield like on a c900...

- I also like that if you took the "winglets" off, it looks like a fast hatchback (not hard to resculpt into a real hatchback)... all the while, the back end is reminiscent of the ursaab without looking old fashioned...

- low drag coefficient (0.25), a historic quality...

What I don't love about it (considering it as design language + not going into production):

- no clamshell hood... every new car has to have "muscular" wheel arches that make a clamshell hard to do... imho NG 9-5 shoulda been clammy...

- too busy

- yet another headlight/tail light iteration... I really like the current 9-5 + 9-4x tail lights!

The independence day vert looks really sharp + I really like how the 9-3 has evolved aesthetically... To me, the Griffin editions of those look the most Saaby of any of the recent cars, all they really need is a hatch! To be honest, I think the new 9-3 could have done well moving evolutionarily from those Griffin cars but with a hatch, hybrid, iqon, exwd, etc...

I suppose I was hoping for a different sort of concept, but I'm not surprised by this given Castriota's background... will be interesting to see the new 9-3 design a year from now...

James...
