That certainly is the trend, but since the economic crash people and companies are (and certainly should be) rethinking a lot of things. The car business has changed a lot in the last few years. While I won't get into it here, having worked for big dealers and having been a dealer myself (used) I can tell you the car business has always been a high wire act and it's getting harder not easier. I'm not suggesting they go back to old gas stations. I guess I'm thinking something classy, elegant, understated, Swedish designed--something a bit different than the traditional model, something a bit out of the box. The Germans are well estabished, full line manufacturers and can afford "TajMahal" places (maybe). Saab may get there someday but for now they are a niche brand and they need to think accordingly, they need to work smart. I don't think they can go toe to toe against the Germans and win. What they can do well is present themselves as an alterntive, a car for those who want something a bit different, which is what they did until GM took over. If that "diffferentness" extends to the dealership experience it might even help rather than hurt. In addition it would make Saab dealerships a much more attractive propositin to investers.
