By any objective measurement, too many new cars are produced. We have no real need for this many cars. But people do buy them, for whatever reason. At any given moment, there are x number of people shopping for a new car. Saab needs to capture a percentage of that x, not create new market y. Expecting people who had no prior intention of buying a new car to suddenly pony up $40-50k, just because it's a Saab makes no sense. I don't think this is what Saab is expecting to do, but it seems to be the tone of this thread. Saab's new sales market has to be a subset of the existing new car buyer market, not the used Saab owner market. They have to convince someone who would have bought a Toyota, or Volvo, etc. to buy a Saab. The idea that we, the owners of older Saabs and are perfectly content, should feel obligated to make a HUGE unnecessary purchase is not reasonable.
