I fully agree with B Millar...

like many here, I can't bring myself to buy a new car, regardless... It's not just Saabs, I do this with a lot of stuff (high end hifi is an even better example of used vs new value because the stuff simply doesn't break very easily and often costs atrocious amounts brand new)... fortunately there are those who are willing to pay for the latest + greatest stuff... I prefer tried and true, even if it is not in 100% pristine condition. Stuff I do buy new tends to be high end + I tend to keep it for a long time (one of my mountain bikes, my favourite actually, is as old as our newest c900)...

to answer your question, if Saab comes out with a game changing hybrid 9-3, with appropriate due diligence, that might push me over the edge... define game changing? the new 9-3 might do it (looking forward to Tuesday's announcement!)... but I'd want plugin capability, full electric mode, ideally all wheel drive (but more importantly, great winter/snow performance), and simple durable (aka elegant) engineering design... timeless aesthetic design + connection to the older models would be nice too: clamshell, hockey stick, "key in the floor", window buttons in the center, big greenhouse with good visibility, comfortable natural materials etc... though I doubt we'll see it, I'd love a "real" wraparound windshield like the c900 too (the blacked out A pillar doesn't have the same effect for me)...

I'm also eyeing the 9-3X, but probably more realistically as a couple year old used proposition depending on other options on the market at the time (eg the new 9-3!)... imho, the future resale value of a pure ICE model is quite dependent on the adoption steepness of electric drive trains... maybe with an outstanding lease rate I might get more interested? not sure... but regardless, I hope the 9-3X (all Saabs really), sell like hotcakes!
