I'm not the enemy...

I bought a brand-new 2010 9-5 Aero about ~250 miles ago.
Why did I buy it? I'd like to say that it's to support a small independent car company that adds variety to an increasingly bland marketplace, but the reality is that it puts a big smile on my face when I drive it. A bigger smile per $$$ than any other car I looked at (and I looked at them all).
Depreciation? I need a car, and all cars depreciate (and I've always felt it's a bit unfair to calculate Saab's depreciation against MSRP since most buy at a steep discount). It seems very solid, the v6 has been very reliable in the 9-3 so it has the potential to not depreciate so much. It's a gamble I'm willing to take.
Long term viability of Saab? Even if Saab goes out of business in 3 yrs when their money runs out, I will have had 3 yrs of enjoyment, and it's not like the car will just stop working on that day. There's enough GM DNA inside that I hope it will be fixable. Again, another gamble...
I worked for GM for a couple summers 25 yrs ago and predicted they would go bankrupt back then... I guess my timing was about 20 yrs early :). My point, almost any company can go bankrupt.
In the end, you pay your money and you make your choices... and I've made mine.
