We can suppose that money is being spent on market research. SAAB has a limited ability to please the masses. I have heard all manner of temptations listed that would get TSN posters excited about buying a new SAAB. The reality as I see it is that SAAB has a fully funded buisness plan for the 94X and a new 9-3. If neither one of those catches on there will be no more. I don't think that a $20k SAAB at least MSRP will ever happen and if they have to keep selling them at steep discounts the new 9-3 might even be a losing proposition.
Every option be it a hatch or a cat piss diesel adds costs in the parts supply chain, retooling and in inventory that SAAB simply can't afford right now. The bright spot I see is that both Audi and VW were nearly driven out of the US market some years ago and now they are thriving. I hope Victor is studying how that was done.
