I think you're right. Saab has probably lost as many customers to Subaru as they have to the Germans, maybe more. I sold new Saabs in the mid-eighties and they were in the midst of the transtion then. They had been a car for people who prized them for they're durability, economy, safety and all weather prowess, but then they turned into a "Yuppie-mobile." Oddly they somehow appealed to both groups for quite a few years. To be honest I don't know if they're going to get those people back--in terms of practical, reliable all-weather capability a Subaru is pretty hard to beat for rural folks. I think the demographic has turned a bit more urban. In fact, I'm looking to make a change job and location-wise in the next few months. While I'd really like to wait for a new 9-3 (and still may) I have been eyeing late model used 9-5's.
