New VW Bus

I just read VW is coming out with a new VW bus (there's was talk of them doing it a few year back too). It's supposed to be all electric. I had two of them back in the day, a '64 and later a '73 (bought two years old). They were the most god-awful cars in some ways (most people take heat for granted)and yet were somehow incredibly charming at the same time. Our kids were small at the time and absolutely loved it (our daughter says it gives her street cred as a "hippie" child although we didn't quite see ourselves that way). By the time they got to be the Vanagon they were much improved but still pretty quirky. For some reason these things just won't die--you still see them being driven as everyday cars and the old ones are going for unbeleivable prices. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing but even though I've owned them, I'm a still little mystified as to the appeal. Any ideas why someone would pay $20K or more for a restored one in this day and age?
