But a lot of us who are paying around $9/gallon does commute pretty far.
I drive to and from work 76 km each way every weekday. That's 152 KMs a day and 760 KMs a week. With various errands I would guess it's around 850-900 KMs on an average week. That's about 550 miles. The last couple of months my monthly fuel cost has been around $650 USD.
I know many who commute similar distances.
I have to admit that I'm tempted by the extremely good fuel economy of the supermini turbo diesel cars that are so popular here, but then I'd have to spend a significant amount of time driving a slow and less than inspiring car with poor seats compared to my Aero.
I will probably get a 9-5 or 9-3 turbo diesel for my next car though...
