Depending on how rounded the nipple is, Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Thu, 10 Mar 2011 08:51:18 In Reply to: But you can still get bubbles past the threads, Noel, Wed, 9 Mar 2011 19:05:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
there are alternate methods that you can throw at the problem. First, spray some penetrating oil between the nipple and the caliper body to try to loosen things up; the nipple is made of a soft brass to prevent locking to the caliper, but they sometimes do get stuck and excessive force on an unlubed nipple will break off the end of the nipple, leaving part of it in the caliper.
For brake bleeder nipples, I use the closed end of a box wrench, which makes it easier to see what's going on than with a socket. If the nipple is slightly rounded off, I agree that an 8mm or possibly a 5/16-inch (slightly smaller than 8mm) might fit a bit better?
