we've had the snow tire vs awd debate before + there are pros + cons to both approaches, but the big factor here is the grade... that is one steep hill! 30% grade is a blue square ski run. It also would surprise me if that Saab didn't have snow tires on it. I think it is quite a cool demonstration...
There was a youtube video someone posted earlier this winter of cars attempting to go up an icy suburban hill out west + sliding back down... without being there, I can't tell for sure of course, but my gut feeling from that video was that our c900 running studded snows would have had no problem but would have had trouble with our unstudded snows. The hill in this video?!? Not a chance would I try either car!! *big* difference in grade!
