on everyone I've encountered here in Europe.
Planners tend to much about with the basic idea, though - sometimes ours add lights for some (even all) the roads entering the roundabout. Sometimes they purposely restrict visibility so you can't arrive at the roundabout too fast. And often we have mini-roundabouts which are so badly positioned, say in towns where ther isn't room for the real thing, that drivers go the wrong way round...
In France, there are vestiges of the old "priorité a la droite" where traffic coming in from the right automatically had priority, no matter how majur or minot the road. This is just about gone but you do have to look at road markings very carefully.
Anyone who is confused by roundabouts should see the "Magic Roundabout" in Swindon, Wiltshire where one big one is surrounded by lots of little ones and you filter your way through any way you like. I have to say it works fine for me but an initial leap of faith is required!
