My experience with round abouts was in Turin Italy. They would be packed with cars inches apart, and occasionally centametering forward, with a lot of shouting and from the tone of it cussing. Fortunately I was not driving, but had to do some eyeballing to see how close we were on the right side.
A new round about, near where I used to live has not done well, the accident rate in nearby intersections has gone up as people take other routes to avoid it. And occasionally some go too fast or try to go straight through, taking out their car and hopefully not others. Its not a good idea to plunk one of these down in a rural area where people are used to going 45+ MPH.
My daughter in law was just complaining about getting caught in the inner circle once to often and is going to use an alternate route. She is a skilled, aggressive driver and not intimidated easily, but that round about has gotten her goat.
