the problem is the rules can vary a little... generally when entering, one gives way to cars in the roundabout... that said, a few years back, they changed the rules in the rotaries in Halifax briefly + it caused some commotion + confusion, so they basically reversed it after a month or so (iirc)... the Armdale rotary there is 2 lanes in the rotary with 5 major roads connecting, so it's not a trivial traffic circle... I think they help with traffic management to some degree + reduce collisions, but there can be backups at rush hour... not sure if better or worse than other solutions for that though... they are bringing more traffic circles here in high collision intersections, and people adapt + it works...
driving in Melbourne was interesting... aside from the hook turns downtown, major multilane highways going through 3 lane roundabouts were the norm + interesting coming from north america (and driving on the left side of the road + at night)... it all seemed to work pretty well though...
