The media does over hype some of this, and as long as you take some precautions and don't go out sightseeing it's really just a BIG storm. Have lived in New England most of my life, have been through several of these, including on the coast. Just be smart... Have some supplies, stay inside, get some friends over for a hurricane party. It will be OK.

I think you're in CT or thereabouts, and as long as you're not directly on the coast it probably won't be too bad. A lotta wind and rain, and maybe no power for awhile, but these storms are more really inconvenient than dangerous for most people. Can a tree hit your house? Sure, but that can also be fixed.
