Plenty of annual flooding and severe wind damage here in Upstate New York. It's expected. Been over in Asia in annual Monsoons which are incredibly intense and even they don't get the press and sensationalism that this hurricane did. Got relatives in Va beach, and Delaware. Been in two tornadoes growing up and hurricanes residing in Florida. Been on a ship riding out 20-30 foot swells and praying for God or a bowl of ice cream as a last meal. This was the wettest year ever for the state of New York!

IMHO it was a political response in an upcoming election year which attempts to distinguish the current president and FEMA leadership under this administration to display leadership and control and that American lives are important to the government; which is in stark contrast to the reaction of the government to a meagerly hyped, under-sensationaled, and most significantly damaging hurricane to strike U.S. shores given the name katrina.

Reporting on the storm was appropriate IMO. Simply the never before seen efforts of the Federal Government to declare States of Emergency prior to any actual damage incurred simply added to the publics panic.

In any stormy weather there may be casualties from a myriad of things. I send my prayers to those that suffer during these cyclic beasts of nature.
