I'm over 6'... but I like a fairly upright driving position + probably have the seat closer to the steering wheel than many my height. Our kids are not huge yet, though car seats have an impact also (glad to be past the rear facing stage). They're ok back there. On top of that, I'm used to doing stuff with c900's and 2 kids + lots of gear, and the 9-5 is bigger... so kind of depends what one's used to... Neighbours think it's crazy the stuff we take with us (3 mountain bikes hanging off the back + ski box full of surfboards, wetsuits etc)... but I like to do stuff. These cars are great for that!
With rentals, it was always tense in the couple days around our departure, getting the right vehicle (so many times they mix things up) and getting the right rack setup so we could take the bikes (Mazda 5 couldn't + there was no other option at the time)... I've got a huge collection of thule parts (something like 450 crossroads are the best bet for rental compatibility), but it's like pulling teeth to get a smaller vehicle with factory rails... most now with that are big suvs... The Freestyle was perfect that way, and if we could reliably rent one of those each year (or a V70, or similar, we'd be fine, but those kinds of cars are hard to get... rental fleets are so biased around economy/midsize/fullsize sedans... 9-5 was the solution: now we just make sure the car's mechanically in top shape + go...
good luck!
James...
