easier but not safer. backing out of a driveway, or in a parking lot is dangerous because you are moving into a flow of cars + less able to see them. The faster the flow, the more dangerous. It's easy to back into a parking spot. A tight garage is maybe a bit more touchy (I don't do that - mine is a matter of inches). When you back in, you have reasonable control of the flow of traffic. When you back out, not so much... anyway, that was part of basic driver training here...
The backup cameras are not bad for avoiding "stuff" in the field of view, so actually would be quite helpful for backing in, eg with a big honkin' SUV... I really did find it useful on the Acadia... but I hated driving that thing...
