hmmm... I can do that... could even do a hammer test, and I even have a control because I only soaked 1 lens...
these are cheapo home depot ones designed for construction work, not lab glasses specifically meeting a standard for that purpose (ie designed to withstand much more hazardous stuff than acetone)... I don't think there is any kind of coating on these - they're pretty low end... remember, plastic (most likely polycarbonate) safety glasses are used all the time in chemistry labs, where more dangerous solvents like benzene are commonplace... of course, so are fume hoods... anyway, the main point of safety glasses is to protect your eyes in the case of accidental splashing, and if they become unusable as a result, that is not necessarily a problem so long as they protected your eyes...
regardless, I agree that it is wise to treat chemicals with respect - the more dangerous, the more respect... I'm not advocating irresponsible use, but there is no need for excessive fear where acetone is not *that* dangerous and pretty useful imho...
